Rachel’s London Marathon Challenge for Hospice

Rachel Cooper will be taking on the TCS London Marathon this April to raise funds for St Elizabeth Hospice in memory of her mum, Anna Cooper.
Inspired by the care her mum received from the hospice before her death in January 2022 – and the support Rachel, herself, received from the charity’s bereavement service, LivingGrief – Rachel (pictured above right alongside her mum and sister) will be running alongside her friend, Beth, and thousands of other runners as they take on the iconic London Marathon on 27th April.
Ahead of her marathon challenge, Rachel has already raised over £1,000 for the hospice through a bingo and raffle night.
Rachel said: “A big thank you to everyone who supported our bingo and raffle night. We had around 60 attendees, and bingo was a hit with everyone! We were so grateful for the generous raffle prize donations from local businesses, and it was fantastic to bring together friends, family, colleagues, and supporters.
“Marathon training is going well, although it’s been a challenge! I’ve had to work through a foot injury, but after completing my first half-marathon, I’m feeling confident. Running has really helped me navigate my grief, and I wanted to set myself a challenge while raising money for a charity that has directly helped me.
“The hospice was always there for mum, and our family after her death. The support we received in the year following her death was invaluable, especially as I had never experienced grief before.
“Fundraising is vital to helping the hospice and its incredible work, supporting people through their illness and helping their families – any donations people can make towards my challenge will make a real difference.”

Every year St Elizabeth Hospice provides support to over 4,000 patients & families living with life-limiting illnesses in East & Mid-Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney. Annually, these services cost around £12 million to deliver, with 70% of funds raised via generous community support through donations, fundraising challenges, retail shops and gifts in Wills.
Brandon Orton, Events and Challenges Fundraiser at St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “On behalf of the hospice, I want to wish Rachel the best of luck for the London Marathon.
“She’s already raised an incredible amount for the charity, and every penny will make a big difference to our services and those we care for.”
